Interior Designer Tracie Moore Reinvents Bedroom Storage with Modern Shelving

Posted by Rebecca Parsons on

As an interior designer, Tracie Moore knows a thing or two about upgrading a space. Moore and her partner reside in a one-bedroom duplex in Flatbush, Brooklyn and like many New York apartments, space is limited. You may recognize Tracie from her stunning apartment tour featured on Homeworthy, where her eye for design and creative use of space took center stage.

Tracie was seeking for a bedroom storage solution that offered something more than just a standard dresser or wardrobe. She was searching for something that was functional yet thoughtfully designed. When she stumbled upon Modern Shelving, it seemed like the perfect fit. Read on to learn why Tracie opted to use Modern Shelving in her home, what drew her to the brand, and her take on our shelves as a designer.  '

What’s your space like?

We're based in Flatbush, Brooklyn in a one-bedroom duplex. The style of our home can be described as a unique and playful space that reflects our individual personalities. We achieve this through distinctive pieces like the hem boa pouf, showcasing Jordan’s photography as art, and incorporating my eye for interior design.

What were you in the market for when you were first looking for shelves?

Our goal was to find bedroom storage that was both functional and thoughtfully designed. We wanted more than just a standard dresser or wardrobe.

How did you discover Modern Shelving?

A friend recommended Modern Shelving after I mentioned we were looking for another storage solutions for our bedroom.

What made you decided to go with Modern Shelving?

I chose Modern Shelving because I was looking for something more elevated than IKEA, with the flexibility to create a custom design that really fit our space. I also appreciated the range of styles they offer, which made it easy to find a solution that felt both functional and refined.

What did you like about what you saw?

I was drawn to the versatility of the product, especially with the range of materials and finishes. It gave me the freedom to add a designer touch that felt personalized and elevated.

How did the process go working with the team to get your shelves designed and ordered?

I scheduled a call with specialist, Allana. I shared a sketch, a photo of the space, and the measurements with her, along with the vision I had in mind (modern, clean, and sleek). That’s when she introduced me to their Aluminum Modular Shelving Units, and they were exactly what I was looking for.

Allana followed up with a detailed drawing and a rendering that looked almost identical to our bedroom wall. It gave me a clear visual of how everything would come together and I was completely sold. Our installer came over to bring the vision to life.

Did you add much of your own spin?

Yes, I did. I created an elevation of the design I had in mind, and Modern Shelving brought it to life beautifully.

What was the experience like installing your shelves?

Our installer came over to bring the vision to life. The installation definitely took a bit of time, but we got through it and made it happen.

What do you house on your shelves?

The shelves are located in our bedroom and serve multiple functions. They hold shoes, provide hanging space for jackets and bottoms, include a workstation for our laptop, and offer additional storage with bins arranged on the shelves.

Are you happy with your shelves?

I’m really happy with our shelves. They’ve been a creative and stylish solution for storage, which we desperately needed since our bedroom doesn’t have a closet.

As an interior designer what types of projects do you work on?

I currently work at a design firm specializing in high-end residential properties in New York City. Over the past three years, I’ve been designing my own apartment to truly make it feel like home. I document the entire journey on my blog, More Than an Apartment, from the early days of moving in, to the design decisions and thought process behind every detail.

As an interior designer, you’ve seen lots of shelving set ups. How does Modern Shelving compare?

Yes, I’ve seen a wide range of shelving solutions. What stands out to me about Modern Shelving is its clean aesthetic, modular flexibility, and how well it can adapt to different spaces, especially in environments where function and style both matter.

Discover how Tracie Moore, a Brooklyn-based interior designer, turned a small duplex bedroom into a personalized, functional, and beautiful space with Modern Shelving. With flexible design options, premium materials, and expert guidance, you too can reimagine your storage.
