Purchasing a new home is an exciting experience. It’s the place where you’ll spend years building memories and growing alongside family and friends. But oftentimes, a new home involves a lot of work.

When Tiffany Garrido purchased her home a few years back, she knew she’d eventually want to remodel the kitchen and dining area. The remodel would involve tearing down the original shelving, which separated the dining room and the living room.
When it came time to start the remodel, Garrido knew that she wanted to keep the same concept and started looking for a similar floor to ceiling shelving system. She hopped online and began investigating her options.

Through her searching, Garrido wasn’t finding many options and a lot of what she was finding were European systems that were out of her budget and that she didn’t love. Eventually, she stumbled upon Modern Shelving’s Instagram and liked what she saw.
“When I came across [Modern Shelving’s] account and saw your room divider shelves,” says Garrido. “I immediately thought, ‘this is exactly what I’ve been looking for!’”

Garrido was paired with lead designer Hailey Strange to bring her vision to life. She opted for custom shelves because she wanted to keep the footprint of the original shelves.
The original shelving was also in the living room, which was not part of the remodel, so Garrido wanted to make sure she chose something that coordinated well with the originals.

Garrido’s original shelves weren’t as functional as she would have liked, so she worked with Hailey to change the configuration of the shelves. The original shelves were short and shallow and Garrido wanted to be able to display taller plants on her shelves as well as holiday decorations, namely her famous Christmas tree collection.
“I told [Hailey] what I was looking for and she helped me figure out how many shelves I needed,” says Garrido. “I signed off on the first configuration she presented me.”
Once the shelves arrived, Garrido recruited her friend Mel to help her with the installation. Garrido admits it was a slow start, but once they knew what to do with all the pieces, the installation went quickly.
“I love them because they are a great transition piece between the new kitchen/dining area and the original living room,” Garrido says of her shelves. “And I like that it creates that separation of space but doesn't close the rooms off from each other.”
Garrido has a few plants displayed on her shelves but is trying to decide what other plants she wants to add. She also swaps out holiday décor seasonally and is currently displaying her big Mickey Mouse pumpkin in honor of Halloween. Once spooky season is over, she’ll add Christmas trees to the display.
Garrido loves the way her shelves divide her space and brighten up her rooms. Her friends like the look of the shelves and are happy that Garrido finally has a place to display her Christmas trees.
