Justin Campbell is no stranger to Modern Shelving. In 2024, Campbell was searching for a shelving system to display his collection of art and photography books. He ultimately purchased a unit to fill a dead space in his Los Angeles studio and has been loving his shelves ever since.
“They’ve held up beautifully,” says Campbell. “They still look and function as perfectly as the day they were installed.”
Campbell recently relocated to New York City and thanks to the modular design of the shelves he was able to bring them with him. He found that taking down the shelves was surprisingly easy and reinstalling them in his new apartment went seamlessly. He hired an installer to ensure the process was a smooth one but is confident he could have done it himself thanks to how intuitive the system is.
“Everything is modular and designed to move with you,” says Campbell. “It’s one of the things I love most about the system.”
Once he was settled in his new apartment, Campbell decided it was time to add another set of Modern Shelving shelves to his home. He was searching for something that could work as both display and storage and something that could function as part gallery and part library. As a photographer and director working across fashion and entertainment, Campbell has lots of pieces from both his work and personal life to display in his home.
Campbell relayed what he was envisioning to the Modern Shelving design team and provided dimensions of the space. He says that the entire process was effortless and is thrilled with the final result.
The new shelves are in Campbell’s living room and anchor the entire space. He uses them to display a mix of photography books, personal objects and ephemera, and art – they’re a reflection of his work and the things that inspire it.
