San Francisco designer Jonathan Kong transformed his living space using Modern Shelving as a stylish room divider. Inspired by an Instagram ad featuring a layout similar to his home, he ordered the same satin-finish shelving system. While installation took under four hours, figuring out the connectors was the biggest challenge. Now, his shelves elegantly display art collectibles, books, plants, and vinyl records, creating a chic and spacious feel. Jonathan praises the unit for making his room taller and more open, proving that well-designed shelving can enhance both function and aesthetics.
The ad caught his interest, and Jonathan gave it a closer look. The home layout in the ad was almost of mirror image of Jonathan's own home. He loved the spacious feeling of the shelves and the way they served as a divider between the living and dining area. He decided to order the exact same set up for his own home.
A designer himself, Jonathan skipped a conversation with the Modern Shelving design team and simply ordered the shelving set up he saw in the ad with a satin finish. The order took longer than expected to ship but once it did, everything arrived quickly. He was pleased with the customer service he experienced and was contacted before his shelves were shipped out.
Once the shelves arrived, Jonathan got to work. Everything went smoothly and he had the entire unit installed in just under four hours. Although most of the instructions were straightforward, it was unclear how to put the extensions together with the connectors, and getting their installation figured out consumed the bulk of his time.
Like the ad Jonathan saw on social media, he installed his shelves next to his couch to serve as a space divider. On his shelves, Jonathan displays his art collectible pieces, books, plants, and vinyl records and is pleased with the way they tie together his space.
“I love it,” Jonathan says of his shelving unit. “It makes the room so chic and the space a lot taller and roomier.”
