Tommy Lundberg is a creative through and through. As a child, he was drawn to different creative mediums such a drawing, painting, and anything that allowed him to express his ideas visually. Throughout his life, Tommy has always followed his instincts when it comes to creative pursuits and that eventually led him to a career working as a photographer and videographer.
Based out of Los Angeles, California Tommy lives in a loft with an industrial vibe. The loft is a big, open space with high ceilings and lots of character. Tommy's building is filled with other artists, so there’s a constant creative energy that inspires him to push his own work further.
When Tommy was in the market for a set of shelves, he wanted something that would elevate his space both aesthetically and functionally. He wanted a way to showcase some of his favorite pieces while simultaneously offering practical storage solutions. Here, Tommy shares more about his exciting career, how he first discovered Modern Shelving, and his experience working with the design team to bring his vision to life.
Where do you draw inspiration from for your photos and videos?
As a photographer and videographer, I love crafting strong, thematic visuals—whether in a studio or on location. The process of bringing an idea to life excites me, from casting to art direction to wardrobe styling. I’m heavily inspired by filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino, Wes Anderson, and Martin Scorsese—directors who know how to create immersive worlds with bold storytelling and distinct aesthetics.
I’m also drawn to nostalgia, pops of color, and cinematic lighting. Music is another huge influence; it has this incredible ability to shape a mood, and I often find myself visualizing concepts based on the way a song makes me feel.
You did a collab with the Golden Globes. What was that project?
A few years ago, I got the chance to shoot on the Golden Globes red carpet. I knew I’d be around a ton of celebrities, but from experience, getting them to stop long enough for anything creative can be a challenge. So, I planned ahead and came up with an approach that I could execute quickly and repeatedly — I shot orbiting portraits of each celebrity, creating a dynamic and mesmerizing effect.
As the night went on and more actors agreed to participate, I knew I was onto something special. It almost became a game to see how many I could capture. The end result was a unique collection of motion portraits that really stood out from the standard red carpet coverage.

How do you discover Modern Shelving?
Over a year ago, I came across an ad for Modern Shelving on Instagram, and the design instantly stood out to me. The combination of open shelving and wood cabinets was exactly what I was looking for — it gave me the flexibility to display my favorite pieces while keeping other things tucked away.
Beyond the aesthetic, I also loved that Modern Shelving is based in Southern California. Supporting local businesses is something I try to do whenever I can, so that was another big plus for me.
Did you go with a custom or stock option?
I chose the Modular Shelving Units , Aluminum Shelves + Wood Cabinets, but I customized my setup by adding a fourth bay. My space is pretty large, so I wanted the shelving to feel substantial and really anchor the room.
How did your ordering process go?
The entire process was smooth from start to finish. The design team was great to work with—they helped refine my ideas and made sure everything would fit my space properly. Communication was solid throughout, and they kept me updated on shipments and delivery.
Did you install the shelves yourself or hire an installer?
I installed the shelves myself with the help of my roommate, Jack. The setup took a little time to figure out, but once we got the hang of it, everything went up easily.
Where in your home are your shelves?
The shelves are a central feature in my loft — they serve as an entertainment console, giving structure to the space and creating a natural gathering area for music, movies, and games.
What do you store/display on your shelves?
The shelves have become a home for some of my favorite collectibles. My roommate and I both have solid vinyl collections, so we prominently display those. I also have a growing collection of vintage neon signs, and the shelving is perfect for showcasing them. It’s a mix of function and personality — everything has a purpose, but it also adds to the overall vibe of the space.
Are you happy with your shelves?
I love them. My loft has tall ceilings, and the shelving complements the scale of the space perfectly. The aluminum and white finish blend seamlessly with the aesthetic I’ve been curating. It feels clean, modern, and intentional.
Have any friends or family seen your shelves yet?
Yeah! We got everything installed just before the Super Bowl, and we hosted a big party with over 30 guests. People kept complimenting the shelves, how they tied the space together and gave it a really elevated feel.
Since Kendrick Lamar was performing at halftime, we displayed all of his and SZA’s records in February as a little tribute. It was a great way to show off our collection while setting a fun, welcoming vibe for the night.
